Schedule — Friday, February 6
Opening night in Milan. The 2026 Winter Olympics officially begin with the Opening Ceremony at Stadio San Siro, with the parade of nations, the lighting of the cauldron, and all the pageantry that comes with it. The ceremony is expected to start at 2:00 p.m. ET / 11:00 a.m. PT (8:00 p.m. local time in Milan).
But the Games don’t wait for the ceremony to end. Curling round-robin play is typically the first competition to begin, often starting the morning before the Opening Ceremony even takes place. Some mixed doubles matches may already be in the books before the first athlete walks into San Siro.
Preliminary rounds in ice hockey and qualifying in select freestyle skiing disciplines could also appear on the Day 1 docket. No medals are awarded today — that starts tomorrow — but the competition is officially underway.
Set the DVR. It’s going to be a long, exciting night.
