How scoring works in 60 seconds
Four runs over two days. The team with the lowest combined time across all runs wins. Margins are often hundredths of a second — a single run can be decided by 0.01s.
If you're new to Bobsled
Teams of two or four push a sled at the start, then jump in and navigate an ice track at extreme speeds. The driver steers; the brakeman provides push power. Combined times over four runs determine the winner.
Bobsled Schedule
Bobsled competition takes place at the Cortina Sliding Centre and typically begins during the second week of the Games. The two-person events (monobob and two-man/two-woman) come first, with the four-person bobsled traditionally closing out the sliding sports in the final weekend.
Each bobsled event consists of four heats spread over two days. Morning heats in Cortina translate to the pre-dawn hours in the U.S. — expect start times around 3:00–5:00 a.m. ET / 12:00–2:00 a.m. PT for most sessions. Combined times determine the winner, so don’t bail after the first heat.
The four-man bobsled final on the penultimate day is one of the signature moments of any Winter Olympics. Germany and Canada are perennial contenders, and the Americans always have a sled or two that can medal on its day.
