How scoring works in 60 seconds
Fastest time wins. In slalom and giant slalom, skiers complete two runs and their combined time determines the ranking. A missed gate means disqualification.
If you're new to Alpine Skiing
Alpine skiing is a race against the clock down a mountain course. Speed events (downhill, super-G) hit 90+ mph; technical events (slalom, giant slalom) demand precision through tight gates.
Alpine Skiing Schedule
Alpine skiing is spread across two venues: Cortina d’Ampezzo handles the technical events (slalom, giant slalom) and women’s speed events, while Bormio — home to the infamous Stelvio course — hosts the men’s downhill and super-G. Events run from roughly Day 3 through Day 15, with the team event closing things out late in the Games.
Most races feature a morning start in Italy, which means early-morning ET viewing. First runs typically begin between 4:00 and 6:00 a.m. ET / 1:00 and 3:00 a.m. PT, with second runs (for slalom and GS) following a few hours later. Speed events are single-run affairs, usually wrapping up before 8:00 a.m. ET.
Prioritize the downhill and super-G days for pure spectacle — the Bormio course is genuinely terrifying. Slalom and giant slalom deliver the tightest competition. Block out the team event day for bracket-style drama.
